MVAA Wresting 2009-2010
We are
participating in the Damascus League which is geared
towards beginning to strong intermediate level
wrestlers. If you are currently wrestling in the Mason
Dixon League this is a good opportunity to get more
experience & build some confidence. We have had several
wrestlers wrestle in both leagues and seldom ran into
conflicts. Wrestling in the Damascus League gives you an
opportunity to wrestle in an additional league
tournament prior to the Mason Dixon tournament, and if
you do well, you can also wrestle in the Mid - Maryland
Classic which was a
week
prior to the Mason Dixon qualifier last year. If you are
practicing with a Mason Dixon Club, you can sign up to
just participate in our matches and tournaments.
Wrestling is a sport in
which dedication and desire typically pays off. Unlike
most other sports, size is not that important of a
factor in determining wrestling matches. Wrestling is
about building character, self confidence, and self
satisfaction with one’s achievements. Wrestling helps a
young person find out how far he can take it past his
own limits. Wrestling helps build the characteristics
that normally lead to a productive adult life. Wrestling
develops discipline, stamina, self control, and
conditioning. Wrestling is an individual sport;
wrestlers can not rely on your teammates to wrestle
their matches. Each individual has to go out on the mat
and face his opponent.
Objectives
for this season are to teach the wrestlers the skills
necessary to compete in the sport of wrestling while
keeping practices enjoyable, to improve overall fitness
level, and to achieve a competence level that commands
respect. We are also trying to build pride in the
community and a team culture in an individual sport.
Many of our wrestlers went to the
Nittany Lion youth camp in State
College PA this summer counseled by Penn
State
wrestlers. The last day of the camp was a group trip to
Hershey
Park.
The MVAA is a volunteer
organization. We are in need of assistant coaching and
administrative help. Anyone interested in volunteering
should contact me.
