Basketball

MVAA Basketball takes pride in being an inclusive and welcoming program. Our volunteer coaches provide excellent instruction for all ages and skill levels starting with our in-house program and going up through 10th grade. Most teams will have 2 weeknight practice time slots and 1 or 2 games each weekend. Our volunteer coaches range from 1st time, learning with the players to former division 1 players now working with their own children and giving back to our community. If you are interested in volunteering or helping the program in any way, please contact MVAA Basketball Director Jonathan D'Alessio.

Overview

In-House Program (Grades K-5)

Our in-house program focuses on player development and instruction for basketball beginners ages K-5th grades. This is a great way to introduce your child to the sport to learn the fundamentals. Players in the program practice at our local schools in clinic settings and then small sided instructional games without a scoreboard. MVAA provides players with a team shirt. Basketball shoes and a water bottle are recommended.

Registration Fees: $80

Monocacy Youth Basketball Association (Grades 3-10)

MVAA is a member of the Monocacy Youth Basketball Association (MYBA) which is a recreational basketball league comprised of over 25 organizations throughout Frederick and Carroll Counties. Teams typically practice twice a week at our local schools and will travel to games on the weekends within Frederick and Carroll counties. MVAA teams are formed in the following age groups (registration dependent):

  • Girls U10, U12, U14
  • Boys U10, U12, U14, U16

Registration Fees: $150

Mid-Maryland League (Grades 6-8)

The Mid-Maryland league is the premier middle school basketball league for our area. The teams consist of the top middle school players from Frederick, Washington, Montgomery, and Carroll Counties. Families must understand that there is no guarantee of playing time and there is an additional $50 fee for any players making one of our teams. Any players who do not attend at least 1 of the evaluation sessions will not be eligible to play. Any 7th grade players who are returning players from either the boy's or girl's varsity teams from last season should attend the varsity evaluation sessions. This does not guarantee a spot on the varsity roster, but will help with evaluating their progress as a varsity level player. Select 6th & 7th grade players may be invited to come to one or both varsity evaluations as well. Invites do not guarantee a varsity roster spot, but will give an opportunity to showcase their talents vs a higher level of competition. Any players who attend evaluations and are not selected will be placed on an MYBA team for the upcoming season. The evaluation information is as follows:

Girl's JV (6th & 7th Graders)
Monday, October 16th 6:00-7:30 pm @ Middletown Middle
Tuesday, October 17th 6:00-7:30 pm @ Middletown Middle
